Continuous Rainfall Causes Landslides, Roadblocks, and Widespread damage Across the State.
Himachal Pradesh is battling severe disruption as relentless monsoon rains continue to wreak havoc. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), as of 10:00 AM on July 31, 301 roads are still blocked, 436 power transformers disrupted, and 254 water supply schemes affected across the state.
The worst-hit district is Mandi, with 193 road closures, followed by Kullu (47) and Chamba (25). Power outages are especially severe in Chamba (142) and Kullu (134) districts.
170 Lives Lost Since June 20
Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, the death toll has reached 170, including 94 rain-related fatalities and 76 deaths from road accidents.
Landslides and floods made highway conditions treacherous on circuits including the Mandi-Kullu NH-21. Workers are restoring road usage where possible, however, the persistent rainfall makes restoration slow.
Infrastructure and Agricultural Damage
According to the SEOC report, impacts from the monsoon-related destruction have rendered damages over ₹1,59,981 lakh. Some key losses include:
2,743 hectares of crops destroyed
680 homes damaged
22,900+ livestock lost
In Kullu district alone, damages have exceeded ₹48 crore, with 17 fatalities, said Deputy Commissioner Torul S Raveesh.
